The intermittent fasting revolution – its value for your T2DM patient

The potential of intermittent fasting as a lifestyle intervention is garnering attention not only as a weight loss strategy, but also for the management of T2DM
Learning objectives
- How the current clinical understanding of intermittent fasting (IF) draws on the experience of managing patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who participate in Ramadan fasting
- To assist patients with T2DM, using basal insulin-based therapy, who want to fast intermittently to improve their insulin sensitivity and reduce their insulin dosage and concomitant insulin-related weight gain
- An approach to the clinical management, as demonstrated in two case studies, of IF and Ramadan fasting for the patient with T2DM.
